SHAH ALAM, May 17 — The Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has spent RM5,000 on dry food items that were distributed to the flood victims in Hulu Selangor yesterday.

Its corporate social responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the donations included 1,200 cups of instant noodles, biscuits (1,200 packs), drinking water (200 cartons), tea (100 packs) and bread (300 bags).

He said the items were channelled through the Batang Kali state constituency coordinator’s Community Service Centre last night as soon as they were informed of the incident.

“We cannot distribute the aid to the victims ourselves as entry to the area was flooded, but I believe the distribution has been made to the victims at the temporary relief centre (PPS), including to those who were not evacuated,” he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, Batang Kali coordinating officer Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad informed that the aid was distributed in stages this morning by Selangor Volunteer (Serve) and Selangor Local Youth Movement (PeBS).

He said the Batang Kali Community Service Centre was also used as a temporary disaster management coordinating centre to launch flood relief missions.

“Volunteers held a briefing there before moving to the victims’ houses to distribute aid, including cleaning work. It is understood that so far seven houses have been cleaned,” he said.

Heavy rain for more than three hours in several districts in the state that started at 12 noon yesterday had caused flash floods in Hulu Selangor.

Among the flood-affected areas are Kerling, Kampung Kelapa, in front of the Royal Malaysia Police College intersection in Kuala Kubu Bharu and Taman Serendah Makmur housing area.
