Motac recommends each state to introduce new tourism products

KUALA TERENGGANU, May 20 — Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry has recommended that each state in the country to come out with new tourism products to further strengthen the sector and attract more tourists, especially from abroad.

Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the rebranding of each tourism product was also strongly encouraged to further highlight the strength of the tourism sector in each state.

“Apart from local tourists, we also get requests from outside to highlight new (tourism) products in the country…there is demand especially from India, they want to make Malaysia their wedding destination.

“Our constraint now is the lack of promotion, so after this pandemic, we have to be more aggressive in promoting and highlighting (tourism) products, including the new ones,” she told reporters at the ‘Rewang Raya’ event in conjunction with the 2022 Malaysia Aidilfitri Open House at Masjid Kampung Seberang Takir here today.

Also present was Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

Asked whether the depreciating ringgit against the US dollar would have an impact on the country’s tourism sector, Nancy said from a tourism point of view, the issue was quite ‘isolated’.

“So far, in terms of tourist mobility it has not shown any effect, there may be an increase in the price of goods but from a tourism point of view it is isolated, our hotels are full.

“The ministry also provides subsidies in the form of tourism-related vouchers, to help reduce the burden and encourage tourists, especially domestic tourists, to travel,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Samsuri said today’s programme gives added value to Terengganu to highlight the tourism products available in the state in an effort to boost the sector in the transition to the endemic phase.
