Over 1,000 dengue cases recorded in Subang Jaya

SUBANG JAYA, May 26 — Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has recorded 1,143 dengue cases around the municipality during the 19th epidemiology (epi) week on May 14.

Subang Jaya mayor Dato’ Johary Anuar said the cases have increased by 50 per cent this year compared to the same period last year with 735 cases recorded.

Thus, he said MBSJ has started regular monitoring in dengue hotspots’ locality, especially in areas that have the potential to become breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito, such as housing, construction sites and factories.

“A total of six dengue hotspot localities have been identified but none has exceeded the 100 days period so far.

“Results from monitoring in the locality where dengue cases were reported, revealed that Aedes breeding locations are often found in the back alleys of community gardens and illegal dumping sites,” he said.

He said this during a press conference after the MBSJ Full Board Meeting No. 5/2022 at the MBSJ headquarters here yesterday.

Johary urged the public to spend at least 10 minutes cleaning their home areas or premises to avoid them becoming Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.
