Pandamaran rep targets over 2,000 B40 residents to join Selangor Saring programme

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, May 18 — More than 2,000 residents from the B40 group in the Pandamaran state constituency are expected to benefit from the Selangor Screening programme (Selangor Saring).

Its state assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee said the free health screening programme scheduled on July 23 at the Pandamaran Sports Complex will focus on underprivileged residents at Pangsapuri Pandamaran, Pangsapuri Bunga Raya, Pangsapuri Taman Chee Leong, Pangsapuri Seri Angkasa dan Pangsapuri Seri Bayu.

“The focus now is on the B40 group because their names are already on the list, but other residents can also take part on the same day of the programme which is being organised simultaneously with the Port Klang state constituency.

“We will meet the village head and go from house to house to encourage residents to participate on the importance of going for early screening,” he said when contacted by SelangorKini today.

Leong added that should the screening quota be exceeded or any residents miss the opportunity, they will be asked to go for the same programme in nearby state constituencies.

“If they cannot make it (on July 23), they can also go to the (programme in) Sungai Kandis or Sentosa state constituencies because not everyone can go for it.

“Furthermore, the apartments in the areas are mainly inhabited by foreigners and the programme’s focus is only on locals,” he said.

The state government has allocated RM3.4 million for the Selangor Saring programme, which focuses on screening for diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and glaucoma.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the program is expected to benefit 39,000 Selangor people, especially those in high-risk groups including those with a family health history, being overweight and living an unhealthy lifestyle.

Registration can be made through the SELangkah app starting from May 16.
