Riders Mohd Zaqhwan, Adam eye podium in Asia Road Racing Championship 2022

SHAH ALAM, May 25 — Two Malaysian riders, Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi and Adam Norrodi, are targeting a podium finish in the Asian Superbikes 1000 cc (ASB1000) category of the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) 2022 at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend.

Mohd Zaqhwan said he would give his best to collect points in this round.

“My target in Sepang is to win or at least get onto the podium. I will do my best to maintain the momentum from the Chang International Circuit in Thailand because I almost scored two wins.

“However, I need to be prepared for uncertain weather here. I’m hoping for dry weather, which will boost my confidence,” he told Bernama when met at the ARRC 2022 promotion programme at the UiTM Sports Centre here today.

The Honda Asia-Dream Racing Team with Showa rider dominated the first race in ASB1000 ARRC 2022 in Thailand recently which involved 13 rounds covering 59.202 km, with a time of 21 minutes and 04.947 seconds.

“I need to look at the advantages of my rivals and then work out my strategy,” said the 27-year-old rider, who is excited to be back at the Sepang circuit after a two-year lapse.

Meanwhile, Adam, 23, who has experience in MotoGP and European championship (CEV), said the Sepang circuit holds sweet memories for him and he hoped this would inspire him to another victory.

“I am looking forward to at least a podium finish in this round. Although there are many challengers, such as Mohd Zaqhwan, Thai and Japanese riders, I will put in extra energy for this weekend’s race.

“I’m excited because the Sepang circuit is my second home. I train here and know the place well,” said Adam, who will be representing the OneXOX BMW TKKR Racing team.

Both of them called on fans to turn out in full force to support all the national riders competing from May 27 to 29. Admission to the Sepang International Circuit is free.
