By Mustakim Ramli

SHAH ALAM, May 26 — People in Selangor are urged to undergo early screening for cancer to prevent from getting the chronic disease by participating in the free health screening programme Selangor Saring.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in Malaysia, accounting for 17.7 per cent of total cancer-related illnesses.

“Early detection could help prevent severe cancer risk. As we know, the cost of cancer treatment such as chemotherapy and other methods is high.

“Hence the Selangor Public Health Standing Committee has implemented the Selangor Saring programme, aiming at early detection of diseases. Register now to undergo the health screening,” she said.

Mariah added the screening test is offered based on each individual’s risk factor which is evaluated through the questionnaires in the SELangkah mobile app.

The state government has allocated RM3.4 million for the implementation of the Selangor Saring programme which would benefit 39,000 people especially those who have a high-risk family history such as obesity and living an unhealthy lifestyle.
