SHAH ALAM, May 25 — Thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rains are expected to continue in Selangor until 7pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued by the agency at 3.15pm, MetMalaysia said the inclement weather condition is also forecasted to hit Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
“Other states and territories that will be affected include Perak (Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim), Terengganu (Dungun and Kemaman), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Kuantan and Pekan), Negeri Sembilan (Jelebu, Seremban and Port Dickson) and Johor (Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru).
“Meanwhile, in East Malaysia the strong weather is expected to occur in Sarawak (Kapit, Bukit Mabong and Belaga) and Sabah (Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Keningau and Kota Marudu,” said MetMalaysia.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
