SHAH ALAM, May 17 — A total of 60 volunteers from Team Selangor went to Hulu Selangor district to help flood victims clean their homes today.

Its secretariat chief Syahaizel Keman said their team was also assisted by other volunteers that included students from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and staff from the Sikh Gurdwara Sahib Kalumpang Temple.

“The cleaning operation started at 8.30am until 6pm. It focuses on victims in Kampung Jawa and Kampung Pasir near Kerling.

“So far, we have successfully cleaned 15 houses that consisted of People’s Housing Project (PPR) homes as well as suraus and community halls. We hope this assistance will ease the burden of the victims,” he told SelangorKini.

Syahaizel said the cleaning process went smoothly despite the low water pressure issue.

“Volunteers worked together and helped each other to clean the mud. Some even helped to move the furniture and electrical appliances. We hope this spirit of volunteerism will continue in the future,” he said.

Continuous heavy rain since 12 noon yesterday that lasted for more than three hours caused almost 20 houses in Hulu Selangor to be flooded.

The Hulu Selangor Information Office also informed that the water level in rivers around Kuala Kubu Bharu, Kampung Pertak and Batang Kali has increased sharply due to the high volume of rainfall that exceeded the normal rate.
