SHAH ALAM, May 12 — Over 20,000 job opportunities are being offered through the Selangor Mega Job Fair this year, which will take place from June 11 to June 12 at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Convention Centre.

State executive councillor for young generation development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the physically-conducted programme involves the participation of over 100 companies in the services, manufacturing, electronic and management sectors.

“We take a serious view of the unemployment rate in Selangor for the first half of the year which stands at 3.2 per cent. Therefore this programme is held to ensure this figure can be reduced.

“This time it is being held on a larger scale after two years of being conducted in a hybrid manner due to the Covid-19 pandemic’s standard operating procedures (SOP)” he said.

Mohd Khairuddin was speaking at the fair’s launch, which also saw the launch of the selangorjobportal.com.my by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at the University of Selangor’s main campus earlier today.

Among the companies involved in the fair include Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor, Daikin Malaysia Sdn Bhd, DHL Express, DRB Hicom Berhad, Giant Malaysia and Malayan Banking Berhad.

Others include Media Prima Digital, Perusahaan Otomobil Nasional Sdn Bhd (Proton), Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Shopee Malaysia, Sport Direct MST Sdn Bhd and Toyota Auto Body Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

The councillor also called upon youths to take advantage of the two-day fair as well as encouraging them to pre-register via the portal, which would make it easier for employers to obtain manpower.

He added a series of visits will also be made to several tertiary-education institutions where briefings will be made to future graduates concerning the initiative.

“We believe the programme will attract the interest of many job-seekers when it takes place. As such we will ensure they adhere to the SOPs by wearing face masks and use hand sanitisers,” Mohd Khairuddin said.
