Batang Kali constituency spends RM60,000 to fix homes damaged by floods, storms

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, June 17 — A total of RM60,000 has been spent on small-scale infrastructure projects in the Batang Kali state constituency so far.

Its coordinating officer Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad said most are spent on fixing roofs of residents’ houses that were damaged by floods and storms.

“Hulu Selangor is frequently hit by disasters that damage residents’ homes. So, we assist by giving cash or appointing a contractor to perform the repair works.

“We will immediately resolve any minor damage that is at a reasonable cost for the convenience of the residents,” he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, he said the state constituency will fully utilise the RM100,000 balance from the Selangor government allocation for small projects based on the applications.

“Yesterday, a discussion was held with the village heads to identify the projects that can be implemented in their respective areas such as repair of playgrounds, community halls and drains.

“If possible, we want to spend (the allocation) as soon as possible for the good of the people, that’s why we have asked the relevant parties to prepare working papers so that immediate action can be taken,” he said.

Saifuddin added that they have also received applications to upgrade other facilities such as bridges, roads and rivers, but would be referred to the relevant agencies because it involved a large cost.

“We will come up with a working paper to be submitted to the Department of Irrigation and Drainage and the Public Works Department before it is extended to the Menteri Besar’s office so that maybe it can be included in this year’s budget,” he said.
