DOSM: Kawasanku open data platform displays demographic profile of Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has developed a new generation open data platform ‘Kawasanku’, which contains information on the demographic profile of the population based on the findings of the Population and Housing Census of Malaysia 2020.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said that Kawasanku displays population statistics and demographic and socioeconomic indicators at the granular level, which can serve as the heart of more specific planning according to focus areas at the parliamentary and state constituencies as a reference and comparative analysis.

“Kawasanku also provides a comparison of visualisation map at the parliamentary and state constituencies, for several indicators such as population density, household income, poverty rate, access to electricity and water supply, percentage of the forest-covered area and light intensity at night.

“With the Kawasanku platform, the people, together with local leaders and stakeholders, can provide feedback and views on development proposals, as well as monitor the progress of the performance of their respective areas more effectively,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Uzir said that the Kawasanku initiative was developed to expand and encourage users to access data in a machine-readable format, as implemented through OpenDOSM which was launched in April this year.

Kawasanku can be accessed through https://kawasanku.dosm.gov.my/.
