SHAH ALAM, June 17 — The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) has introduced a special grant with an allocation of RM100,000 to raise public awareness of the importance of looking after the environment.

Council president Mohd Hasry Nor Mohd said the Sustainable Community Special Grant is the start of the green and sustainability programmes organised by the local community.

“With this grant, we can gradually aid the community in implementing programmes or projects via existing allocations to increase the quality of life and the environment.

“At the same time, it is also aimed at encouraging the community to practice a low-carbon lifestyle, in line with the Smart Sustainable Hulu Selangor, Safe City and Sustainable Development Goals,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Hasry added that MPHS has received 30 participation applications, including eight for the green technology category and 22 for the environment category.

All the participants were evaluated under the green technology and environment category. Of this number, only 21 were selected based on the sustainable environment category and thus qualified to receive the grant.

“Alhamdulillah, the public reception has been very good, although only 21 qualified based on the criteria. Congratulations to those who succeeded.

“To this, MPHS has agreed to open up participation for the second phase of the MPHS Sustainable Community Special Grant 2022, due to the rousing reception,” he said.

The Sustainable Community Special Grant handover ceremony to the 21 recipients was held on June 15 at Dewan Serbaguna dan Kompleks Sukan Daerah Hulu Selangor in Kuala Kubu Bharu.

Mohd Hasry officiated the ceremony, with Hulu Selangor district officer Mohamad Hanafe Basri and Orang Besar Daerah Hulu Selangor Raja Dato’ Muzaffar Raja Redzwa in attendance.
