Interdistrict data-sharing system to improve efficiency in disaster management

By Zareef Muzammil

AMPANG, June 21 — The Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU) has invested RM300,000 to develop a digital data-sharing system for disaster management in the state.

Its managing director Dr Fahmi Ngah said that it took six months to complete the development of the system that improves disaster relief operations in each district, such as floods and landslides.

He said that the effort was developed following the difficulties experienced during the flood relief operation in December of last year when there was a lack of population data, temporary evacuation centres (PPS), and aid.

“This system allows information from agencies such as the Malaysian Civil Defense Department, Disaster Unit, Social Welfare Department, local authorities, and hospitals to be shared at the district level,” he said.

Fahmi was met by the press after the handing over ceremony of information and communication technology assets to the Hulu Langat and Sepang land and district offices (PTD) during the Selangor Penyayang Roadshow at Taman Kosas, here on Sunday.

The assets that were given included two laptops and a smart television equipped with the data-sharing system, which was presented by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said the same equipment was distributed to seven local authorities during the roadshow programme.

“Data reporting can be conducted digitally using the system and sent to the state government directly,” he said.
