PASIR PUTEH, June 23 — The deep-sea fishing sector needs to be boosted as it has the potential of providing a lucrative income for the industry players, says Agriculture and Food Industries Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ronald Kiandee.
He said his ministry would seek views and suggestions from the industry towards bringing change and making deep-sea fishing a more conducive industry in the future.
“At the same time, we will also listen and take into account the problems the fishermen face when formulating a policy that suits their wants.
“This includes relooking at the calls for the government to give a fuel subsidy to C2 class fishing boats that was discontinued in 2019,” he said.
He said this to reporters after visiting the Gelombang Utama Sdn Bhd fish factory in Tok Bali here today, with the company’s managing director, Fauzi Abdul Rahman also present.
