Malaysia Book Of Records recognises MBSJ as first local authority for shariah-compliant financial management

SUBANG JAYA, June 20 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has become the first local authority to receive the Malaysia Book Of Records (MBOR) certification for a Syariah-based quality management system.

Mayor Datuk Johary Anuar said this is after MBSJ passed nine certification scopes which cover payments, budgets, accounts, loans, procurement, counters, trust funds, investments, as well as receipts and non-revenue

He added the application to recognise MBSJ’s efforts was made to MBOR on May 13, prior to its approval, which also ensured the council’s financial management system is controlled in accordance with Islamic law.

“The certification ensures the development of documentation in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP). We are committed to any form of improvements in order to protect Islamic law from harmful things,” he said,

The certificate was presented by MBOR chief marketing officer Jwan Heah to Johary at the MBSJ headquarters earlier today.

Meanwhile, Johary said the council will implement the separation of Syariah-compliant and non-Syariah-compliant revenue, to improve quality management.

“The overall monitoring of non-Syariah compliant revenue is less than five per cent and will be reported during the finance committee meeting. Non-Syariah compliant revenue is spent on maintenance and cleaning.

“We have also adopted the Islamic scheme for MBSJ accounts since December last year, in addition to exchanging employee salary accounts to CIMB Konvensional compared to CIMB Islamic before this,” he said.

Johary added the investments were selected based on Syariah, including Komoditi Murahabah and the provision of takaful coverage for officers and staff medical facilities.
