SHAH ALAM, June 24 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has donated RM10,000 to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kampong Jawa as an appreciation for being selected for the top 10 World’s Best School Awards.
He also congratulated the school on its achievement while assuring that the state government would continue to support the nomination.
“I have met with the principal of SMK Kampong Jawa in Klang ,which was shortlisted as the top 10 best school in the world under the ‘Addressing Challenges’ category.
“May the school achieve more success,” he said on Facebook.
Yesterday, Sungai Kandis state assemblyman Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said the state government will coordinate a task force to improve the school, which would be one of the contributing marks to win first place.
He said the task force for the school would also involve the Sungai Kandis community service centre.
On June 9, T4 Education in a statement, said the awards, which were launched this year in collaboration with the Yayasan Hasanah, Templeton World Charity Foundation, Accenture and American Express, offered a total cash prize of US$250,000.
The three top finalists would be selected in each of the five categories of the World’s Best School Awards, namely Community Collaboration, Environmental Action, Innovation, Addressing Challenges and Supporting Healthy Living.
The winner of each category that would be announced at World Education Week, from October 16 to 21, will receive US$50,000.
Apart from SMK Kampong Jawa, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kempadang in Kuantan, Pahang, is also shortlisted under the ‘Innovation’ category.
