PETALING JAYA, June 19 — A single mother of four is able to cut her expenses this month thanks to a food basket provided by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) in conjunction with the local council’s 16th-anniversary celebration.

R Logiswari, 40, said that she needed to be economical at the moment as the economy had only recently recovered after being badly affected by the movement control order (MCO).

I work in the hospitality sector. During the MCO, my salary was affected, and I had to rely on savings and the Employees Provident Fund to support my children, who ranged in age from 11 to 18.

“The economy is now beginning to stabilise. With this food aid and kitchen utensils, the strain of spending this month will be reduced. This assistance is greatly appreciated,” she told SelangorKini.

Meanwhile, Noraini Sam, 60, said she appreciates any assistance from any party to help alleviate the load she has to bear.

The small-sized trader has to support her mother, Baayah Yeop, 86, who has been bedridden for the past seven years, as well as her husband Jaluddin Yassin, 57, who has memory problems.

“I need help and before the MCO, I had applied for assistance from the Selangor Zakat Board and the Social Welfare Department, but have yet to receive a response.

“Thank you for this assistance. At the very least, it would be able to help with the expense of purchasing essential food items,” she said.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir paid a visit to the families and handed them a food basket containing rice, oil, and household utensils.
