MBPJ to continue helping traders affected by Covid-19

PETALING JAYA, June 27 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will continue issuing temporary business licences to micro-entrepreneurs who are still affected by the pandemic even though the country is now in the transition phase into endemic since April 1.

Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said since the movement control order (MCO) started in 2020, the local council has issued 253 temporary business licences to help the affected group.

“The council conducted a re-census on May 11 to 31 on all the temporary business licenses that were issued and the results revealed that 47 per cent of the traders are still active in doing business.

“The rest have ceased doing business after the reopening of all economic sectors. Therefore, as a responsible organisation we will issue temporary business licences to the traders to help them continue doing their business,” he said.

He said this at the Merangsang Ekonomi Mensejahtera Komuniti Petaling Jaya programme, at Laman MBPJ here yesterday.

On February 21, state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said that the state government had issued more than 10,000 temporary licences to traders affected by Covid-19.

The state administration had on December 17 last year extended the period of temporary license issuance to the small traders for another six months until June this year. The initiative was initially scheduled to end in December last year.
