MBSA selects Vista Alam Apartment as pioneer to prevent single-use plastic

SHAH ALAM, June 7 — Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has made Vista Alam serviced apartment in Section 14 here as a pioneer for its Single-Use Plastic Free Community zone effective June 15.

Under this initiative, residents and traders must comply with the ban on using single-use plastic bags, as well as not using plastic food and beverage containers or disposable plastic equipment.

MBSA Corporate and Public Relations Division head Shahrin Ahmad said business premises there are also required to provide reusable bags, paper bags or biodegradable bags to the public.

“The public is encouraged to bring reusable bags from home when shopping and bring their own containers along with eating and drinking utensils,” he said in a statement.

He explained that Vista Alam selection was done under the Collaborative Action for Single-Use Plastic Prevention in Southeast Asia (CAP SEA) initiative between Malaysia and Germany.

He added that the project acts as a platform to educate and raise awareness among the community on the impact of long term use of the material on the environment.

“Therefore, MBSA hopes this pilot project will become the pioneer for other areas in Shah Alam to control the use of single-use plastic,” said Shahrin.
