MBSJ opens second woodball course to encourage community participation in the sport

SHAH ALAM, June 15 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has launched its second woodball course named Laman Woodball Datuk Bandar MBSJ USJ 11 at Padang Awam MBSJ in USJ 11/5, Subang Jaya, yesterday.

Its mayor Dato’ Johary Anuar said the initiative was to encourage all Subang Jaya residents to learn and play the popular game, which is similar to golf.

“This is the council’s second woodball course after the first at Taman Rekreasi Wawasan Puchong, which drew a positive response from the public that MBSJ decided to open a second course.

“We are still upgrading the course and will install solar lights to allow people to play at night, making this the country’s first solar-lit woodball course,” he said in a speech during the soft launch of the woodball course, yesterday.

Meanwhile, MBSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid said in a statement that the local council  hoped that would benefit the community and foster a sporting spirit, allowing the council to fulfil its goal of building a sustainable city development.

He said the newly launched 12-course woodball facility would complement the council’s first 24-course international standard facility at Taman Rekreasi Wawasan Puchong, which is the largest woodball course in the state.

“This sport was introduced by the MBSJ Zone 16 Residents’ Representative Council (MPP) with the establishment of the Wawasan Woodball Club, headed by state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han.

“The club now has 38 members and actively participates in local tournaments organised by the Malaysia Woodball Association,” he added.
