SUBANG JAYA, June 21 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has spent a total of RM23.2 million on waste collection and public cleaning as of May.
Its mayor Dato’ Johary Anuar said the allocation was made in line with the existing local government’s sustainable development action plan, which includes monitoring municipal cleanliness.
He stated that 112,000 tonnes of solid waste had been disposed of up to this point, with an average of 750 tonnes each day.
“Solid waste management is a major issue in today’s society, particularly in cities. Along with the increase in population, the rapid urbanisation process led to an increase in the number of items and waste discarded.
“This situation not only has an impact on the environment, but it also has a negative impact on human health. As a result, we allocated the funds to KDEBWM (KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd) for waste management and cleaning,” he said at the MBSJ headquarters here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Johary said that concerns about rubbish collection and public cleanliness were being monitored to create a pleasant environment.
To balance the rapid development in the MBSJ area, he said, sectors such as grass cutting, drain cleaning, roads, and public parks are also given attention.
