SHAH ALAM, June 30 — Incomplete addresses and inaccurate telephone numbers given by flood victims were identified as the reason that Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) aid has failed to be handed over to the eligible recipients.

Klang District officer Shahman Jalaludin said the problem was detected when Klang Land and District Office (PTD) officers visited the address written in the application form.

“We had gone to look for the recipients before April 30 but failed to find them because their address was incomplete and their phone number was not accurate, which resulted in the failure to locate them.

“However, some of the recipients we managed to locate were not at home and the cash aid was handed over to their representative. In total, less than 1,000 recipients have not taken the flood aid,” he told Selangorkini.

He said so far, almost 66,000 recipients have received the cash aid since December last year.

Recently, Kota Kemuning state assemblyman V Ganabatirau informed that there are hundreds of victims who have yet to claim the RM1,000 in assistance, despite being eligible to receive the benefits.

He said all the victims’ applications had been processed but the recipients have not come to claim it, apart from could not be contacted, while others have been contacted but have yet to come.

On December 21 last year, the state government allocated RM100 million in funds under the BSB programme, following the heavy flooding that hit several districts on December 18.

Asides from infrastructural recovery, the allocation also included RM10,000 in aid for the next-of-kin of deceased flood victims and RM1,000 to heads of households to repair their homes.
