14,000 chickens available at cheap sale programme beginning tomorrow — Exco

By Mustakim Ramli

BESTARI JAYA, June 2 — A total of 14,000 chickens will be available during the Selangor affordable sale programme starting tomorrow, said state executive councillor for agriculture Izham Hashim.

He said the state government is simultaneously attempting to increase the chicken supply to achieve a daily sales target of 20,000 chickens.

“When we recalculated the cost, it is more expensive than the ceiling price at RM8.90 per kilogramme (kg) but imported chicken from Thailand costs RM10 per kg, hence there is no need to import chickens.

“The state government will find local chicken suppliers to ensure we can meet the target of 20,000 chickens daily. We are confident this can be achieved soon,” Izham said.

He was speaking after the launch of the Selangor Crop Seedlings programme at the Selangor Fruit Valley, here today.

On May 27, Izham said the sale of chickens at a lower price will be increased from 10,000 to 20,000 a day in June.

He said the increment of 10,000 chickens is due to increasing demand in the state.
