New MRT Putrajaya line will complement property prices in surrounding areas, says expert

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — A property market expert has lauded the opening of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Putrajaya Line today.

PropertyGuru Malaysia (PropertyGuru.com.my and iProperty.com.my) country manager Shylendra A S Nathan said the new line will greatly benefit those living in the surrounding areas.

“Any type of infrastructure development will definitely help to increase property prices, as well as development in the area where it is built.

“This is not the first MRT project and if you look at all the locations where the MRT project was launched, generally speaking, a decent amount of development has occurred. So it is fair to assume that would also happen in this area,” he said after a media briefing by iProperty.com.my titled ‘Addressing Common Property Research Issues’ earlier today.

Shylendra added it makes perfect sense to build an MRT station in Putrajaya, given the sizeable population and others areas along the line, as well as the property developments that have taken place there over the years.

“Therefore, any infrastructure development including transportation will also affect the surrounding areas. Usually, it will act as some sort of extension to the transportation as it will serve nearby areas,” he said.

Earlier today Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri launched the MRT Putrajaya Line Phase 1 at the Kampung Batu MRT station here.

The 57.7km MRT Putrajaya Line has 36 stations comprising 27 elevated stations and nine underground stations, at a total construction cost of RM30.53 billion.

MRT Putrajaya Line Phase 1 involves the route from Kwasa Damansara to Kampung Batu while Phase 2, which is nearning completion, involves the route from Kampung Batu to Putrajaya.

The Phase 2 route will run across strategic areas including the Kuala Lumpur city centre with underground stations at Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur Hospital, Ampang Park, Persiaran KLCC and the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX).
