PETALING JAYA, June 10 — A recycling company supervisor did not expect to win the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) guess the tower boxes sculpture quiz contest and bring home a six-month supply of drinking water.
Izrul Fadly Mostapa, 26, said he had come to the PJ Eco Recycling Plaza for work and decided to try his luck in the guess the tower boxes sculptures that are made from used drinking water packaging cartons.
“I did not expect to become a champion. Alhamdulillah (Praise to Allah), since the recycling programme started, I have been segregating recyclable waste to be sent to this plaza.
“Actually, before this, I did not practise recycling but since this programme started it created an awareness to care for the environment,” he told SelangorKini.
Meanwhile, an MBPJ staff member, Seffene Siron said he started collecting used cooking oil since the local authority introduced the programme to the community.
“I used to be in the Environmental Unit and found there are many benefits to be gained from the used cooking oil collection programme aside from getting a return from its sale.
“In fact, since then I began to spread information on it to every housing block and now other residents are incorporating it into their daily life,” said Seffene who lives in Taman Medan Cahaya.
Earlier, Seffene took home the prize of a 12-month supply of grade A chicken eggs after successfully collecting 31 kilogrammes of used cooking oil in conjunction with Ramadan.
