SHAH ALAM, June 7 — The number of Langkah Masuk Dengan Selamat (SELangkah) app users has reached 7.9 million since launching on May 4, 2020.

Its project director Dr Mohd Helmi Zakariah said the app’s users come from a variety of sources including individuals booking vaccinations and making payments via e-wallets, among others.

“Before this, it was used for contact tracing, but it continues to expand with a variety of other functions including mental wellness and the Selangor Vaksin (Selvax) initiative.

“Currently 75 per cent of its usage is via e-wallets, mental wellness, the Selangor Saring programme, as well as still receiving bookings for vaccinations,” he said in the Bual Bicara talk show titled ‘Dua Tahun SELangkah Lebih Maju’ (Two Years of a More Advanced SElangkah) broadcasted live on Media Selangor Facebook last night.

Dr Mohd Helmi said the reservations to conduct reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests and rapid antigen (RTK-Ag) tests can be made through SELangkah.

Initially, the app was introduced for contact tracing aimed at making public surveillance easier during the Covid-19 pandemic and the Movement Control Order.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said SELangkah uses the basic concept of automatic control to register individuals who enter any premises quickly and easily.

The public can download the app onto their smartphones via the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
