SERI KEMBANGAN, June 13 — The Selangor Social Security Organisation (Socso) has paid compensation benefits amounting to RM47.58 million involving 41,764 cases from January to the end of April this year.

Its director Zainol Abu said of the total, 33,425 involved Covid-19-related claims while the rest were cases of accidents, permanent disability and chronic diseases.

According to him, Petaling Jaya recorded the highest number of beneficiaries since the Covid-19-related claim was introduced, followed by Klang, Putrajaya, Rawang and Tanjung Karang.

“We have a key performance index (KPI) on the payment process to contributors. If the application details are complete, the payment period should only take seven days, however, for complicated cases, it may take up to 45 days.

“Currently there are many Covid-19-related claims as Selangor recorded the highest number of infections. So we are now processing the cases that have not been paid yet,” he said when met after handing over a compensation benefit payment in Bandar Putra Permai here today.

In the meantime, he advised employers to make contributions for their employees to ensure their workers are protected in the event of an unwanted incident.

“Even if there is an accident involving an employee who just started the first day of work, we will still give out the compensation benefits. This shows the importance of employers making contributions for their employees to Socso,” he added.
