16 companies to compete in first-ever Selangor Fashion Accelerator

SHAH ALAM, July 29 — The state’s first-ever 2022 Selangor Fashion Accelerator (SFA) programme unveiled the 16 companies who will compete to bring Malaysia’s fashion scene to greater heights through digitalisation.

The programme, organised by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), aims to assist Malaysian startups and small-and-medium entrepreneurs in the fashion sector in increasing their brand recognition in the market and industry.

Sidec chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said SAP was started when they became aware of a noticeable lack of accelerator programmes designed exclusively for the fashion industry.

“Sidec is stepping up to support emerging fashion businesses in growing their revenue and investment prospects.

“We wanted to give business owners a chance and a platform to share their ideas and creativity, as it is a component motivating these entrepreneurs to be bold and confident of what they want to explore and present,” he said in his welcoming remarks at the event today.

The programme is supported by Malaysian well-known music icon and businesswoman Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin and other notable fashion entrepreneurs like Rasta Rashid, Leslie Variyan and Wong Lee Leng.

The 16 participants will enrol in a two-month intensive programme from August 1 to September 23 that will be conducted via a hybrid mode, which covers modules such as pitching fundamental skills, product-market-fit, brand identity or brand DNA, innovation of textile, fundraising sharing session and intellectual property or trademarks.

They will also get access to benefits including RM948 worth of SQL accounts, RM588 worth of SQL payrolls, RM600 worth of Sprii Commerce Light & Easy Package, and the Pingspace starter package.

Only six will be chosen to pitch to investors and industry partners on the Demo Day, which will take place on October 8 at Pitch@Selangor 6, in conjunction with the 7th Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC), a side event of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS).

Victors may also receive potential investment opportunities from The Hive Southeast Asia and Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB).

Today’s ceremony was graced by Selangor Menteri Besar’s wife Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, who is also the Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) president.
