SHAH ALAM, July 7 — The quick action of several parties in handing a latex rubber spill along Kilometre 383.3 of the southbound PLUS Highway yesterday managed to prevent a shutdown of the Bernam River Headworks water treatment plant (WTP)

The Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) said it received information from Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) about the accident involving a lorry tanker at 6.30am yesterday.

However, the situation at the site of the location remained under control after PLUS blocked the spillage from flowing into Sungai Behrang.

“Luas immediately conducted sampling activities at the location, and determined no pollutants managed to bypass PLUS’ blockage.

“We have also coordinated action together with the Perak Environmental Department, following the incident which occurred at the state’s border and requires cleaning works,” Luas said in a Facebook post.

The agency added that cleaning works were comprehensively carried out by a contractor appointed by the company which owned the overturned lorry.

“Monitoring from time to time is being carried out to ensure there will be no effect on Selangor’s water sources,” Luas said.
