Food production output ramped up to ensure sufficiency — PKPS

By Zareef Muzammil

KUALA LANGAT, July 5 — The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) has increased the output of products to ensure the continuity of basic food supply in the state.

Its senior marketing manager Md Fazir Abdul Latif said this is being carried out in collaboration with the producers of chicken, meat and cooking oil, and will help the people who are being burdened by the rising costs of goods on the market.

“We own chicken and cattle farms, as well as oil palm plantations, so we also took proactive action to produce our own basic products.

“This is why we work with manufacturing companies who can directly supply to PKPS. More importantly, it does not involve middlemen,” he said earlier today.

Speaking at the Jualan Ehsan Carnival in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha at Taman Perwira, Sijangkang, Md Fazir Selangor residents do not need to fear as the products will be marketed cheaper through the Ehsan Intervention programme.

InsyaAllah, there is nothing to worry about because we still have supplies and are strategic cooperation with the relevant parties is constantly ongoing,” he said.

Since December last year, PKPS conducted the programme for the affordable sale of basic goods in 64 locations statewide, to help reduce the people’s burden following the increasing costs of goods.

Asides from eggs and chicken, other products sold at Jualan Ehsan include fresh beef at RM35 per kg, mackerel and selayang fish for RM8 a pack, and cooking oil.

On May 19, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme has benefitted up to 60,000 families in Selangor.
