Form a committee to monitor RS-1, says Selangor opposition leader

SHAH ALAM, July 29 — A monitoring committee that includes state representatives from the opposition party must be established to reinforce the check and balance procedure for the First Selangor Plan (RS-1).

Selangor Opposition leader Datuk Rizam Ismail said in addition to evaluating the effectiveness of RS-1, the committee functions to oversee its implementation.

“I would like to suggest the formation of a monitoring committee with members from the opposing party in order to guarantee the success of RS-1.

“This bipartisan committee will make sure that projects promised by the state government may be implemented, monitored, and assessed to see if they are still relevant,” he said during the debate on the RS-1 during the the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here yesterday.

Rizam, who is also Sungai Tawar state assemblyman, hopes the committee could at promptly if the main people-oriented projects are at risk of being delayed or abandoned.

“I hope that Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and the state government will pay heed to my proposal for the benefit of the wellbeing of the Selangor people,” he said.

On Wednesday, Amirudin tabled the RS-1, which is expected to be Selangor’s development framework in five years and have a total cost of RM212.44 billion.

He said that RM92.44 billion had been set aside for state-level development initiatives, including the introduction of a number of incentives to ensure the welfare of the people.

He said the state government will allocate RM7.16 billion of funds while over RM80 billion will be covered by the state government subsidiaries and private parties.
