SHAH ALAM, July 19 — The Selangor Educational Support Centre for Special Needs Children (Anis Centre) is offering to help parents detect speech delay within three hours through free screening.
Its department head Danial Al-Rashid Haron said the initiative has greatly helped parents who usually have to wait between six to 12 months for an appointment at government hospitals.
“The parents’ participation in the programme has also been very encouraging, as they are determined to identify their children’s problems at an early age.
“Since the establishment of the Selangor Special Needs Kid Verification and Screening programme, we received over 80 registrations and have since screened 16 applicants,” he told SelangorKini.
Danial said Anis Centre is intensifying the programme’s promotion among disabled person (OKU) card holders, as they are still far from the 15 per cent target out of total population as set by the World Health Organisation.
“Each session will involve a paediatrician assisted by four therapists from various fields to help conduct the screening and confirm the child’s problem,” he said.
