MBSJ replaces sewage pipes in Puchong Jaya to prevent flash floods from recuring

PETALING, July 19 — Some 30 company owners around the Bandar Puchong Jaya industrial area have expressed relief as the sewage pipe replacement project is expected to be completed this week.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the two-week replacement work with an allocation of RM50,000 is to enable the existing drainage to accommodate a higher water capacity, in order to prevent repeated flash floods.

“The floods began in March and resulted in some premises incurring losses of over RM100,000.

“Following that, the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) conducted a field visit to investigate and determined that the narrow sewer channel was the cause of the flood. So we expanded the channel in order to prevent the flood problem from recuring,” he said after reviewing the project today.

The Kinrara state assemblyman said the infrastructure problems faced by the people can be immediately resolved at a lower cost if the local authorities conducted frequent field visits.

“If everybody plays a role, any problem can be resolved as soon as possible. As with today’s issue, the costs will not be extravagant and will not take a long time,” Ng said.

Meanwhile, local business GT One Smartkey Sdn Bhd director Khoo Teck Seng said his organisation experienced hundreds of thousands of ringgit in losses after his customers’ vehicles became submerged in water.

“The water rose up quickly and took a long time to subside. We had to break down the wall to release all the water. I hope this problem does not repeat itself now that the sewer has been replaced,” he told SelangorKini.
