RM321 mln in projects to be carried out in resolving Seri Kembangan, Seri Serdang floods — Exco

SHAH ALAM, July 29 — The Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) will implement four projects worth RM321 million to deal with the flooding issue in the Seri Kembangan and Seri Serdang areas, said state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim.

He said the developments for all the projects involve allocation sources from the Federal government, state development, ditch contribution trust accounts, and the Public Works Department.

“The Subang Jaya City Council’s (MBSJ) observations have revealed the floodings in the Seri Kembangan and Seri Serdang areas as a whole are caused by high-intensity rain, resulting in the water level of Sungai Kuyoh and its tributaries overflowing into low-lying areas.

“As a long-term proposal, DID is currently implementing a flood mitigation plan development project for the Sungai Kuyoh Basin, upgrading the drainage system in the Seri Serdang area, building a bluewater reservoir in Seri Kembangan, and upgrading the drainage system for the Serdang Agriculture Department’s engineering department building,” Izham said.

He was responding to an oral question from Seri Kembangan state assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah on the steps to resolve the flood issue in his constituency and in Seri Serdang, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session earlier today.

Concerning the local flood issue, Izham said MBSJ is carrying out a drain construction project along Jalan BS 3/8, to solve the flooding at Jalan BS3/1.

“Continuous actions are also being implemented to ensure the drainage system under MBSJ’s supervision remains in good condition,” Izham said.
