RS-1 to transform Sabak Bernam into seafood industry hub

SHAH ALAM, July 29 — The Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda) will turn the district into a new tourism attraction for Selangor.

State Legislative Assembly Speaker Ng Suee Lim said he hopes the development plan is also capable of diversifying the area’s economic sector and generate more income for the locals.

“Among the announcements that caught my interest in the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) was Sabda as it involves my constituency (Sekinchan).

“I hope that Sabak Bernam will no longer be known only for agriculture, so that whenever the name Sekinchan and Sabak Bernam is mentioned, people will also associate it with the seafood industry,” he told SelangorKini.

The Sekinchan state assemblyman added he hopes a maritime university will be built in the district, for youths to get a chance to learn about the environment and sustainability under one subject using modern skills.

“I am confident that with everybody cooperating all these hopes will be realised within the next five years,” Ng said.

On July 27, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that Sabda will become one of the state’s main focuses for the next five years during the tabling of RS-1 at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.

A total of RM1.9 billion will be invested in Sabda, involving an area of 1,317 hectares. The project is expected to generate an estimated revenue of RM248 million a year and create 3,600 job opportunities.
