Selhac helps 100 halal exhibitors penetrate hypermarket

SHAH ALAM, July 8 — About 100 exhibitors who participated in the Selangor International Halal Conference (Selhac) in March have managed to penetrate the market of several leading hypermarkets.

State executive councillor for halal industry Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni said their halal products have also been marketed in supermarket chains and sold to consumers.

“But our proudest achievement after holding this programme (Selhac) is when the participants garnered a contract with Petronas worth RM2.3 million to market their products nationwide.

“In Selangor, we helped market micro products produced by the people in the state through various platforms, including through state-organised expos such as Selhac,” he said as a panellist during the economic forum session at the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) Pre-Launch Symposium at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Convention Centre, here yesterday.

Other panellists during the session were state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim, state executive councillor for investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim and Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek.

The symposium was launched by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Apart from that, Mohd Zawawi said, Malaysia should take the opportunity to make this country a major player in the halal industry.

“The Port of Rotterdam chose Malaysia as their reference for halal standards, thus making this country a reference for the whole world and we need to take the opportunity to become a major player,” he said.

Earlier during his opening speech, Amirudin informed that RS-1 focused on four main themes covering economy, social, sustainability and governance.

He said the theme would be a guide in making Selangor a smart, liveable and prosperous state by 2025.
