KLANG, July 4 — The Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ladang Midlands hostel in Section 7, Shah Alam will be officially operational during the first term school session next year.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the hostel could accommodate 200 students from Year One to Six with a minimum admission target of 100 students at the initial stage.
“Construction of the school’s dormitory has been completed. We will discuss this at the next State Executive Council Meeting (MMKN) to ensure the hostel can be used as soon as possible.
“But before the new school term opens, we want (to use the facility) to give training to the Indian community and their children at the hostel,” he said.
He said this at the Shaping a Malaysian Indian Development Narrative programme at the Wyndham Acmar Hotel here, last night.
Also present at the event were Klang MP Charles Santiago, Seremban MP Anthony Loke Siew Fook and Sentosa state assemblyman Dr G Gunaraj.
Meanwhile, Gunaraj informed that the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the country in the past two years has resulted in the postponement of the hostel’s operations.
“During Covid-19 no focus was given on it, but now is the right time for us to bring in the students to the school dormitory.
“However, from now until December, this hostel can be used for Indian community development programmes, especially for the low-income families (B40),” he said, adding that the hostel’s operating cost is about RM1.1 million annually.
