Sungai Klang recovery an example to be included in state development plan — Exco

SHAH ALAM, July 25 — The efforts to clean and restore Sungai Klang are among the main items that will be a part of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) which will be tabled on Wednesday (July 27), said state executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim.

He said the initiative is in line with the state government’s goal of making the river an examplar for cleaning other rivers.

“Sungai Klang will be a model when it comes to water resource management and its carbon credits. Integrated development will be created to serve as an example for other rivers.

“The continuity of the efforts we are making now will be included in RS-1,” Izham said after inspecting the cleaning and conservation of marine life in Tenggol, Terengganu on Saturday.

The inaugural presentation of RS-1 on July 27 encompasses a five-year plan for 2021 – 2025 to build Selangor’s resilience in facing future challenges.

Meanwhile, Izham said the dredging and widening work to improve Sungai Klang will begin this month by Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd, at a cost of RM700 million.

He added the dredging from Klang to the border of Kuala Lumpur will help with flood management in the Klang Valley, as well as create ecotourism and connectivity.

“Recovery efforts do not cease despite development in Sungai Klang. We will install garbage traps in river tributaries in cooperation with the local authorities.

“The use of the Interceptors river cleaning machines will also continue, in addition to enforcing the polluter pays principle on premises that pollute the river,” Izham said.
