SHAH ALAM, July 28 — An incident of pollution was avoided due to the prompt action by the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) in identifying fuel spilt from a truck that was involved in an accident at KM294.9 North-South Expressway (northbound).

In a statement, Luas said that an investigation by its 24-hour surveillance patrol team had found traces of fuel on the road as a result of the collision.

“We worked with PLUS Malaysia Bhd (PLUS) to place sawdust in the area where the accident took place as a precautionary measure to curb the incident from getting worse. This was done considering the accident occurred close to Sungai Langat, with an estimated distance of 30 meters.

“Based on a further investigation at a nearby drainage and the surrounding water sources, no traces of fuel were found.

“However, Luas will continue periodic close monitoring to ensure the the event would not have an impact on the operation of the water treatment plant and cause water supply disruption for the users,” the agency said.
