SHAH ALAM, July 21 — Individuals experiencing stress, anxiety and depression commonly feel it is difficult to share their problems, tending to isolate themselves with the expectation these issues will subside by themselves, said state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.
In a Facebook post, said such attitudes are highly dangerous as they can eat away at one’s self, and advised such individuals to seek professional help via Talian SEHAT.
“Some feel it is a trivial matter which others do not need to know of.
“But do not look upon it lightly, and instead share your feelings with a certified counsellor. We are ready to listen,” Dr Siti Mariah said.
Members of the public seeking to voice their concerns can contact Talian SEHAT’s 24-hour line at 1700-82-7536 or 1700-82-7537.
The hotline was established in early June and is operated by experienced counsellors to listen and help solve problems.
SEHAT can be accessed via a special button on the SELangkah app’s main screen. Some of the functions that users can explore include mental health screening, risk screening, psychoeducational videos, WhatsDoc portal, and the mental health literacy scale.
The programme enables users to determine the level of their mental health through initial self-screening ‘stress scales’ and ‘risk screening’.
