KUALA SELANGOR, Aug 28 — The state government will allocate up to RM10 million for non-Muslim houses of worship in Selangor by next year.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the allocation is an increase of RM3 million, compared to the current allocation, for the benefit of worshippers.

“At present, RM7 million is being spent on houses of worship for the non-Muslim community. In fact, other states have also followed suit in the past four to five years, with an allocation of RM10 million.

“I have informed YB Gana (V Ganabatirau) and discussed the matter during the state executive councillors’ meeting. Next year the allocation for non-Muslim houses of worship, including temples, will be increased to RM10 million from RM7 million,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking at the Pakatan Harapan Indian Road Show programme, held at the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC) here yesterday.

Since Pakatan took over the state administration in 2008, the allocation for non-Muslim houses of worship stood at RM3 million annually, before being increased to RM6 million six years later.
