SUBANG JAYA, Aug 14 — Some RM20,000 was spent on the maintenance cost of a badminton court at the recreational site in Jalan SS19/1G, here.

Subang Jaya state assemblyman Michelle Ng Mei Sze said the court needed to be restored as it had sustained significant damage that put the residents’ safety at risk.

“The residents complained about the court in February, and we acted right away because, despite the damage, they continued to use it for recreation.

“The construction of the court began on May 16 and was finished two weeks later, on May 30,” she said when met yesterday.

Ng said that one of the 11 initiatives planned this year for the residents of the areas in Subang Jaya is the upkeep of the court.

“We have 11 projects planned for this year, all of which follow waiting lists and quotas to give the people the best service possible.

“The initiatives that will be carried out include those for playgrounds, school aid, and surau. All of this assistance is being provided as per the requests of the residents,” she added.

Meanwhile, the residents near Jalan SS19/1 had expressed their relief that their request to have the badminton court repaired was granted.

Chairman of the SS19/1 Residents’ Association Peter Chin thanked Ng for showing concern for the issues facing the people.

“Because this court is still in use despite being severely damaged, the locals have been waiting for repairs to be made.

“I hope that the locals would be able to make use of the court and continue their recreational activities safely,” he said.

Retiree Danny Lim, 71, said that the people’s safety was at risk because the court had not been fixed in decades.

“This court is used by people from all walks of life, regardless of race or age, and is not only used for playing badminton but also sepak takraw.

“Residents won’t have to be concerned about falling and being hurt now that the court is repaired. Two years ago, I suffered an injury as a result of a fall,” he said.
