Bomba: Taman Sri Muda flash floods fully receded, residents urged to stay calm

SHAH ALAM, Aug 20 — The flash floods that took place in Taman Sri Muda, Section 25, here earlier today had fully receded by early evening, said the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

Its director-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan Wahid said as at 6.30pm today, the flood water around Taman Sri Muda has fully receded.

“The heavy rain has stopped, with just a slight drizzle reported. While the water level in Sungai Klang has also receded and returned to a safe level,” he said in a statement that was issued at 8pm today.

In the statement posted on National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) Twitter today, Mohammad Hamdan said so far no victims have been rescued and no flood relief centre (PRS) were opened.

He said they first received reports of flash floods at Jalan Harapan, Jalan Waja, Jalan Makmur and Jalan Mahir, in Taman Sri Muda at 5.05pm.

“We immediately dispatched five rescue boats, one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle, along with 24 personnel and 3 officers.

“Our team is still monitoring the areas and in a state of full preparedness until the situation returns to normal,” he said.

Mohammad Hamdan asked residents in Taman Sri Muda to remain calm and not be influenced by fake news on social media.

“To get further information and verification on any incidents please contact the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.

“We request for the cooperation by residents in Taman Sri Muda to follow instructions by authorities in case there is any more flood situation in the area,” he said.
