SHAH ALAM, Aug 8 — The dredger in Dengkil, Sepang is being repaired before being turned into a historical museum, said state executive councillor for culture and heritage Borhan Aman Shah.

He said there are several parts on the ship that are leaking and require repair work.

“There is a minor problem involving rust, in which certain parts are also leaking. I was informed by the Speaker of the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) that repairs are needed before the ship can be made to float again.

“Similarly we have also asked the local authorities to conduct a study so as to obtain recognition from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation,” Borhan said.

He was responding to media queries on the status and development of the Dredger Museum, at the Raja Tun Uda Library earlier today.

In June, the state government via MPSepang managed to acquire one of the world’s largest dredging vessels, weighing more than 6,000 tonnes and at a cost of over RM10 million.

The Selangor government seeks to turn the dredger in Dengkil into a historical museum, making it a new public tourist attraction.
