Maha 2022 to witness signing of MoUs involving more than RM4 bln in investment value

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 — Several memoranda of understanding (MoU) involving investment value of more than RM4 billion will be signed during the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro Tourism Exhibition (Maha) 2022 from August 4 to 14.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said Maha 2022 is also expected to generate more than RM250 million in potential sales value.

“This does not include the business matching session involving eight marketing agents from abroad as one of the efforts to bring local produce and agro-food products to the international market,” he said during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was responding to a question by Tumpat MP Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi on expected benefits from this year’s Maha.

Ronald said Maha 2020, with the theme ‘Food Security For The Future”, also provides career opportunities for young people and graduates who are looking for a job through the Job Guarantee Programme in the Agro Job Fair segment.

“More than 100 companies will participate in the programme, offering more than 15,000 job vacancies in various sectors,” he added.

Ronald said the Maha 2022 will be the main platform in the government’s efforts, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (Mafi), to drive the recovery of the country’s agro-food sector, in addition to helping the recovery of agricultural entrepreneurs, in terms generating income sources and further guaranteeing the country’s food security.

He said Maha 2022, which will be opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob this Saturday (August 6) at the Malaysian Agricultural Expo Park (Maeps), Selangor, will showcase 1,500 exhibition and sale stalls of industry players and local entrepreneurs.

According to him, Maha 2022 is the first time to be organised in a hybrid way, which is a combination of physical and virtual.
