MB congratulates national badminton duo for victory in 2022 World Badminton Championships

SHAH ALAM, Aug 28 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has congratulated national badminton players Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik on winning the 2022 World Badminton Championships title in Tokyo, Japan.

He said their success not only ended the wait of 45 countries in the championship but also made the upcoming 65th National Day celebrations all the more sweeter.

“Congratulations to the national doubles badminton team Aaron Chia – Soh Wooi Yik on beating ‘The Daddies’ to become world champions.

“A very sweet gift ahead of National Day. Malaysia’s 45-year wait is finally over. Malaysia boleh!,” Amirudin said in a Facebook post.

The Menteri Besar was referring to Chia and Soh’s opponents in the final match, Indonesian players Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan, who are popularly referred to as The Daddies.

The national pair ended Malaysia’s wait for a maiden title at the championships 27th edition earlier today.

The country’s top badminton pair defeated Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan 21 – 19, 21 – 14 in a 40-minute match.
