MPK heads towards smart city status, first local authority to realise 5G tech

SHAH ALAM, Aug 22 — The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) moves to become the first local authority in Selangor to provide free Internet based on 5G technology to the public.

Its president Noraini Roslan said the effort, in cooperation with Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), will digitise the Klang community in line with technological modernisation and help Klang achieve smart city status.

“This technology will enable users to experience 5G with existing devices, by connecting them to the 5G WiFi SSID provided,” she said.

Noraini was speaking at the officiation of the Klang Vehicle-Free Day programme, at Padang Laman Seri yesterday, with the theme ‘Perarakan Jiwa Merdeka’ in conjunction with the 65th Independence Day celebrations this year.

A variety of activities were organised for the event, including contests for traditional games like congkak and batu seremban, and a kolam painting event.
