MPKj lantern-making contest offers RM40,000 in cash prizes

SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 — A total of RM40,000 in prizes await the winners of Selangor’s lantern-making competition based on the environmental sustainability friendly concept.

The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) said the competition, running from August 16 to September 4, is divided into two categories.

Category A is for students aged 15 and below, while Category B is for students aged 16 and above.

“Do not miss this chance! Stimulate your creativity by using recyclable materials to make the most unique lantern for Selangor,” said MPKj in a Facebook post.

Among the competition rules is for participants’ lanterns to be made out of 70 per cent recyclable materials, and no larger than 60 centimetres (cm) x 60 cm.

“The lantern’s structure also needs to be strong enough to be hung for display. It must not touch on sensitive issues such as religion and politics,” MPKj said.

Those interested can register at https://forms.gle/uWB4aD3wCiiwwG318, with the application forms submitted before August 28.

MPKj said all the submitted lanterns will be displayed during the Kajang constituency Lantern Festival on September 4, at Taman Rekreasi Bandar Mahkota Cheras in Kajang.

The prize-giving ceremony will be held at the same location on the same day.

Cash prizes for Category A are RM1,500 (first place), RM1,200 (second place) and RM1,000 (third place), while 20 consolation winners will receive RM500 each and RM1,500 goes to the Best Video winner.

While for Category B, the first prize winner will receive RM2,500 in cash, second place (RM2,000) and third place (RM1,500), while 20 consolation winners will receive RM800 each and RM1,500 goes to the Best Video winner.
