Post-Covid-19 economic recovery, green economy model among highlights in upcoming Apec summit

BANGKOK, Aug 8 — The post-Covid-19 economic recovery and Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model will be among the topics to be highlighted in the upcoming Apec Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) in November, as the grouping accelerate efforts towards sustainability agenda.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul said Thailand, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) chair this year, would also highlight on trade and investment facilitation efforts as well as addressing climate change.

“Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan o-cha has instructed relevant agencies to undertake publicities in order to promote public awareness on the importance of Thailand’s hosting of Apec 2022,” she said in a statement here today.

Earlier, Prayuth chaired the National Committee on Preparation of AELW to follow up on the preparation progress for AELW to be held in the next four months.

Meanwhile, Traisuree said the meeting today has approved a special three-day holiday for Bangkok and vicinities during the week of the AELW, starting November 16 to November 18 to alleviate the traffic congestion, facilitate participants’ travel, and ensure the safety and security of the Apec leaders.

She said the same was done when Thailand hosted the Asean Summit in 2019.

Agencies that need to provide services to the public, such as hospitals, courts, banks, may adjust their own holidays appropriately, she added.

Traisuree also said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Finance have been ordered to proceed with the production of commemorative coins for Thailand’s hosting of Apec 2022 in a bid to promote public awareness and participation.
