RS-1 focuses on five sectors to achieve environmental sustainability — MB

SHAH ALAM, Aug 9 — The First Selangor Plan (RS-1) that was tabled on July 27 listed five focus sectors to help the state government achieve its environmental sustainability goals.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the sectors include resilience and disaster management; water management; low carbon state; waste management and biodiversity; and natural resources.

“Based on the current situation in the state as well as globally, and taking into account the results of the latest studies, various initiatives will be carried out under RS-1’s third strategic theme (environmental sustainability) in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he said in a Facebook post.

The third strategic theme in the five-year economic plan aims to prioritise the driving of environmental sustainability based on the principles of Environmental, Social and Governance Practices (ESG).

The plans include the implementation of flood mitigation infrastructure projects covering river deepening, as well as the construction and upgrading of river reservoirs and retention ponds.

It will also focus on the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) project to clean and rehabilitate Sungai Klang, using boom traps and the Interceptor advanced garbage collection machines.

In addition to sustainable development, RS-1 also focuses on economic growth, empowering the people through welfare programmes, as well as creating a transparent and efficient government system and services.

RS-1 also takes into account the implementation of policies, projects and comprehensive initiatives between the state and Federal governments, without excluding the implementation of the five-year 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) plan.
